Upscale semi-rural community with an idyllic valley landscape
Moraga is an upscale semi-rural community nestled in the rolling hills of the Moraga Valley. Moraga’s sylvan landscape provides an idyllic place to call home within easy reach of San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley via BART and Highway 24. The community’s valley setting insulates it from the famous San Francisco fog and provides a mild Mediterranean climate. Moraga’s gorgeous surrounding landscape provides plenty of trails and outdoor recreation space for enjoying the good weather.
Homes in Moraga range from classic ranch-style properties to stunning contemporary custom builds. The sloping hillsides provide many of these homes with captivating views of Mount Diablo and the Moraga Valley. Housing options also include private gated communities and golf course view properties overlooking Moraga Country Club.
Moraga has a close-knit feel with community events throughout the year. Young families are drawn into the area by its semi-rural peacefulness, outstanding schools, and the many activities available to children. Many local children enroll in programs with the Lamorinda Youth Association and Moraga Baseball Association. There are miles of trails and acres of open space that make it easy to forget how close Moraga is to some of California’s most bustling metropolises.
Moraga has two main commercial areas located along Moraga Road. At Moraga Road’s northern intersection with Rheem Boulevard, the Rheem Theater is a four-screen 1950s movie house that shows a mix of the latest blockbuster and independent releases. The Rheem Valley Shopping Center strip mall has familiar stores such as T.J. Maxx, Dollar Tree, CVS Pharmacy, and HomeGoods. Dining choices in this area include delicious pan-Asian dumplings, salads, and noodles at Noodle Theory and mouthwatering oversized burgers and pies at the retro Nation’s Giant Hamburgers. You can also work up an appetite or burn off calories at Rheem Boulevard’s 24 Hour Fitness. Across the street from 24 Hour Fitness, California Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) offers ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip hop dance classes for children of all ages. CAPA provides one-to-one coaching and tuition and stages a variety of performances throughout the year as well. Where Moraga Road meets Moraga Way in the south, Joy in Motion provides a similarly diverse range of dance classes for children, teens, and adults. Canyon Club Brewery is a friendly neighborhood tavern with a large beer garden serving a range of house-brewed beers and southern-style bar eats. Stores and restaurants at Moraga Shopping Center include Safeway, Taiwanese bubble tea spot iTea, and family-run Sicilian-style Italian restaurant La Finestra. Each Sunday, Moraga Farmers’ Market at the Moraga Shopping Center features more than 40 vendors selling locally-grown produce and gourmet foodstuffs. Other facilities in Moraga include the Moraga Library, which hosts community events ranging from toddler storytime to AARP tax assistance programs.
Moraga offers an abundance of outdoor recreation with access to numerous parks and hiking trails. Moraga Commons Park has playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, a skate park, and a water spray feature in the heart of the community on Moraga Way. This community hub hosts many events throughout the year, including Fourth of July entertainment and fireworks, September’s Pear & Wine Festival, and a Thursday night Summer Concert Series at the Commons Bandshell.
